Parenting can bring up things you never expected

Many parents come to therapy because they want to give their children something different from what they experienced growing up.

You love your children deeply. You care about their wellbeing. You want them to feel safe, supported and understood.

Yet sometimes parenting can bring up emotions, reactions or patterns that don’t make sense.
You might find yourself responding more strongly than you’d like, feeling overwhelmed by situations that seem small, or carrying guilt after interactions that didn’t unfold the way you hoped. At times, it can feel like parenting exposes parts of yourself you thought you had already dealt with.

For many people, this can be confusing and confronting.

When old wounds show up in new ways

Parenting has a way of bringing our own childhood experiences to the surface.

Experiences we haven’t thought about in years can suddenly become relevant. Emotional needs that were never fully met, family patterns we hoped to leave behind, or ways of coping that once helped us get through difficult times can begin to show up in our relationships with our children.

This doesn’t mean you’re failing as a parent. Often, it means there are important parts of your story that deserve attention, understanding and care.

Many of the parents I work with are carrying a great deal. They’re trying to navigate the demands of family life while also managing work, relationships, responsibilities and the challenges of the world around them. It’s not uncommon to feel exhausted, stretched thin, or unsure how to make space for yourself amongst everything else.

Understanding yourself with compassion

My work is grounded in helping people understand why they think, feel and react the way they do.

Together, we can explore the experiences, attachment patterns and emotional wounds that may still be influencing your life today. Rather than focusing on blame or judgement, I help you make sense of what has shaped you and develop a more compassionate understanding of yourself.

As a parent myself, I understand that parenting can be both deeply meaningful and incredibly challenging. I also understand the fear many parents carry about passing on their own struggles to the next generation.

Creating healthier patterns for yourself and your family

Therapy can help you feel more emotionally regulated, less overwhelmed and more confident in your parenting.

It can help you understand your triggers, respond rather than react, and build stronger connections with yourself and your children.

Most importantly, it can help you create lasting change, not just for your family, but for yourself as well.

You don’t have to carry this on your own.
