Therapeutic Approach
Therapy is about more than reducing symptoms
Many people come to therapy because something in their life isn’t working the way they would like it to.
They may be feeling overwhelmed, emotionally reactive, exhausted, disconnected, stuck in difficult relationship patterns, or struggling to understand why certain experiences affect them so deeply.
While these challenges can be painful, I believe they often make sense when viewed in the context of a person’s life experiences.
My approach to therapy focuses on helping people understand themselves more deeply, make sense of the patterns that are shaping their lives, and create meaningful and lasting change.
Understanding the whole person
I don’t believe people can be understood through symptoms alone.
Our experiences, relationships, family histories, identities, values, environments, and life circumstances all play a role in shaping how we think, feel, cope, and relate to others.
Many of the people I work with have spent years functioning, helping others, parenting, advocating, working, or simply surviving. Often they have become so focused on getting through life that they have had little opportunity to understand the deeper experiences that may still be influencing them today.
Together, we explore these experiences with curiosity, compassion, and respect for the complexity of being human.
Understanding the impact of trauma and attachment
A large part of my work involves helping people understand the impact of trauma, particularly the quieter forms of trauma that can often go unrecognised.
Sometimes trauma involves a significant event. Other times it develops through experiences of emotional invalidation, feeling unsupported, inconsistent caregiving, chronic stress, or relationships where emotional needs were not fully met.
These experiences can shape the way we see ourselves, respond to stress, navigate relationships, and cope with life’s challenges.
My role is not to judge these patterns, but to help you understand them and create new possibilities for moving forward.
A collaborative and compassionate approach
I believe therapy works best when it feels like a genuine partnership.
I aim to create a space where people feel safe enough to talk openly about difficult experiences, emotions, and concerns without fear of judgement. Whether you are navigating trauma, parenting challenges, fertility struggles, ADHD, burnout, relationship difficulties, grief, or simply a sense that something doesn’t feel right, my goal is to help you feel understood rather than analysed.
I bring curiosity, compassion, and evidence-based approaches to our work together, while recognising that every person’s experience is unique.
Creating lasting change
My focus is not simply on helping people cope in the short term.
I want to help people understand why they think, feel, and respond the way they do, so they can create lasting change in their lives, relationships, and sense of self.
Many people find that as they better understand themselves, they feel more emotionally grounded, more connected to others, less overwhelmed by life’s challenges, and more able to move towards the life they want to create.
Therapeutic Modalities
I draw from a range of evidence-based approaches depending on each client’s needs, including:
- Attachment-Informed EMDR
- Schema Therapy
- Mindfulness-Based Approaches
- Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
- Adult ADHD Assessment
